In an exclusive interview with Filmfare, Varun Dhawan spilled some beans on what we should and shouldn’t expect from the film. Here goes…

How does it feel stepping into Salman Khan’s shoes in Judwaa 2?

Judwaa 2 is a new story about two brothers. I don’t want to try and match the impact that Salman bhai, Sajid sir (Nadiadwala) and my dad created in the first one. I just want to give the audiences a new experience. It’s funny that on the first day of shooting a couple of youngsters had come on the set. I asked them if they had seen Judwaa and some replied, “Yes on TV.” Those who haven’t watched it, it will be a brand-new film for them. I’m trying to create newer nuances. Obviously, there are going to be references to the earlier film, to Salman bhai and the characters, Raja and Prem. But we’re trying to do new stuff as well. We’ve retained the two hit songs – Oonchi hai building and Tan tana tan tan tan tara… from the original film.

You’re touted as the Salman Khan of today’s generation. Does it flatter you?
Honestly, I don’t dwell on it. In fact, this perception came into being when I started off my career. Whatever said, I still have to work hard, I still have to put in efforts. People can say a lot of things but deep down inside you know what’s true and what’s not. You should not lose focus.

Any Salman Khan memories?

A lot of them. I remember during the screening of Judwaa, I called him ‘uncle’. He said, ‘I’ll rap you if you call me uncle’. (Laughs) Guess what! He’s just sent me a suitcase full of jeans for Raja’s character in Judwaa 2. Bhai is proud of whatever I’ve done. He says I’m a bit too enthusiastic on screen and asks me to calm down. He’s someone I can go to whenever I need any help.
